It’s official! California Deathfest is returning for at least one more year. In early August of 2022, the creators behind Deathfests stated that Maryland Deathfest would be the only festival they produce. Remember that at the time, because of the pandemic, both Maryland Deathfest and California Deathfest had to be postponed. It was unclear what the future of live music would be, and the best decision was to focus strictly on Maryland Deathfest. Before the pandemic, here are the festivals Deathfests branched into: Maryland Deathfest, California Deathfest, UK Deathfest, Netherlands Deathfest, Québec Deathfest, Scandinavia Deathfest, and Days Of Darkness.
For those who don’t recall, here is the lineup of the last California Deathfest.
Now that it’s clear that California Deathfest is returning, here is the latest info regarding location and a first look at the lineup. The decision is to return to the Bay Area, specifically Oakland, California, on October 12-13, 2024. The event will be Open-Air, and it will take place at Castro, next to Line 51 Brewing. A pre-fest will occur on Friday, October 11, at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Tickets will be sold separately via the GAMH ticketing platform. Festival parties will occur Saturday and Sunday at the Elbo Room Jack London on 3rd and Broadway. Bands will play there each night starting at around 10:30 pm. Dismember (Sweden) and Sodom (Germany) are the headliners.
On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, a post stated that Sacrifice (Canada) and Monstrosity have been added to the lineup. This will be Sacrifice’s first show in California since 1993! Weekend passes are on sale now, and single-day tickets will go on sale on March 6, 2024, at 1 pm PST.
