Rage Of Armageddon VII Festival: The Ultimate Underground Metal Festival In NYC (2024)

Picture this: It’s August 31, 2024, and you’re about to arrive in Brooklyn, NY, for an Underground Metal Festival. The lineup for the evening is shown below.

That’s right—the opportunity of a lifetime to see bands that have existed for over thirty years that have shaped the underground scene to its core and newcomers as well. Rage Of Armageddon Festival was created by Ed Farshtey of Armageddon Productions, a promotion company known for booking old-school and underground heavy metal bands in NYC. The seventh edition of Rage Of Armageddon is no exception, but it was definitely the biggest one yet. The whole lineup remained intact, except for Wrath, who unfortunately had to drop. VIP packages were offered this year and included event shirts, band merch, an official Rage Of Armageddon tote, an event poster, and early admission to the fest to get autographs and merch.

Another Demon (NYC)

Hailing from NYC, what better way to start the fest than by having American Death Thrash band Another Demon be the kicker? Their debut EP, As Above So Below, was released in 2023 and also featured a guest appearance by James Murphy on the track ‘Drawn And Quartered’.

The energy of this band was electrifying. From the upbeat riffs to the adventurous solos, the fest had a great start with Another Demon. The full photo gallery can be found here.

Abominog (VA)

Formed in the late 80s in Virginia, Death Metal band Abominog was the second band to grace the stage. With over thirty years of existence, Abominog is an underground Death Metal band that released a classic and debut full-length album, Chaos Unleashed, in ’95.

Many of their classics were played, and it was remarkable to witness these old-school underground legends. The full photo gallery can be found here.

Kontusion (NJ/DC)

Next up, a blazing duo producing raw Punk and Death Metal styles combined, Kontusion. In 2022, they released their self-titled demo, and man, it’s an amazing release. It’s crazy to witness how primitive and crushing a sound can be from just a duo.

If you’re a fan of Terrorizer, Discharge, or Nausea, you’re in for a treat. Witnessing the blend of two genres from different extremes was fantastic. After their set, I am definitely looking forward to a full-length album release. The full photo gallery can be found here.

Morbid Saint (WI)

Formed in the mid-80s and one of the most underrated Thrash Metal bands in existence, Morbid Saint performed after Kontusion. Who can forget the release of their debut full-length album Spectrum Of Death? It was remarkable to witness a band that singlehandedly was one of the most innovative Thrash Metal bands of their time. In 2024, they released a new album titled Swallowed By Hell.

It was during Morbid Saint’s performance that the fest attendees began to mosh and added the Thrashaholic atmosphere we’ve all been waiting for. The full photo gallery can be found here.

Blood Feast (NJ)

The continuation of Thrash Metal bands performing follows with Blood Feast. Another band formed in the mid-80s, Blood Feast, formed in New Jersey and released their debut, Kill For Pleasure, in 1987. In 2024, they released their fourth studio album, Infinite Evolution, with Adam Tranquilli taking on vocal duty.

The Underground Thrash Metal spirit is alive. What can I say? The upbeat and unrelenting drum patterns, the groovy bass lines, and the uncompromising and commanding vocal style that we can’t get enough of. The full photo gallery can be found here.

Détente (CA)

Formed in 1984 with the lineup of Dawn Crosby, Steve Hochheiser, Dennis Butler, Caleb Quinn, and Ross Robinson, Détente released their classic debut full-length album, Recognize No Authority, in 1985. The band’s first appearance in NYC was at Rage Of Armageddon VII, and their goal would be to perform their classic album from start to finish. They graced the stage after Blood Feast, and might I say it was a phenomenal performance. Tiina Teal, who is the current vocalist of Détente, carries on the spirit of Dawn Crosby in the flesh. Dawn Crosby’s vocal style is unique and is a nice blend of punk and crossover thrash.

Due to time constraints, Détente performed most of their greatest hits. It was a performance not to be forgotten. The aggression, the speed, and the unwavering energy were very much alive. The full photo gallery can be found here.

Deceased…(VA)

Forty years of Death Metal, forty years of Deceased… indeed. Formed in the mid-80s and with the release of their debut album Luck Of The Corpse in 1991, Deceased is no stranger to the depths of the Death Metal underground. Their set consisted mainly of new songs. Their latest album, Children Of The Morgue, was released the day before the festival, and it was a treat to be able to hear these songs live for the first time.

Rage Of Armageddon Festival was just the start, but the festivities continued. Up The Tombstones!!! The full photo gallery can be found here.

Nasty Savage (FL)

To end the festival, Nasty Savage was the headliner. Hailing from Florida, Nasty Savage was an early contributor to the Thrash Metal scene, which was formed in 1983 by pro-wrestling enthusiast “Nasty” Ronnie Galetti. At the start of the set, we set sail on a journey filled with adventure and suspense. Glorious hits such as Asmodeus, Gladiator, and Metal Knights were played, and of course, we can’t forget about Ronnie trying to break a TV set on his head.

After the set, the carnage was done, we, as fans, were overcome with joy, knowing that the underground Metal spirit was alive and well and that Rage Of Armageddon Festival was the epitome of that spirit. The full photo gallery can be found here.
